Summary

The PACU Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. As a member of the Surgical and Post Surgical team, the RN works with Surgeons, Anesthesiologists Surgical staff and other personnel to provide care in the PACU according to the State Nurse Practice Actt AORN and regulatory standards, physician orders, policies and procedures of the hospital and the Surgical department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: shift accountability for coordinating direct care of the patient by utilizing the Nursing Process in collaboration with healthcare team, communication with families, recovery of surgical patients and transportation of patient to next appropriate level of care.
